The Vancouver Canucks are keeping Cammi Granato in a key hockey operations role, but with a new title.
The team announced that Granato will move from assistant general manager to senior amateur advisor ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The change is not a departure.
Granato joined the Canucks front office in February 2022 after being hired by Jim Rutherford and has since become an important part of the organization.
In her new role, she will use her experience and connections in amateur hockey to support the teams scouting and player evaluation efforts.
General manager Ryan Johnson praised Granatos impact and expressed excitement about her continued work with the Canucks.
I am excited to have Cammi move to the position of Senior Amateur Advisor, said Johnson.
Cammi is a quality person who knows a lot about the inner workings of our organization.
She has built-in relationships and connections with our amateur staff that will help us continue to do good work in that area.
According to a statement from Canucks Communications and NHL Media, Granato also spoke about the decision, saying that after conversations with Johnson and her family, she felt it was the right time to take on a new role with the organization.
After taking some time to reflect on things, I feel this is the perfect time to transition into a new role with the Canucks, said Granato.
I have had some very thoughtful and meaningful discussions with RJ and my family about my position within the organization.
The move keeps Cammi Granato involved in the Canucks long-term plans, with a focus on amateur scouting and prospect development.
Her playing and executive experience will help the team identify and develop future talent.
As reported by David Quadrelli of Yardbarker, who cited the original report from Canucks Army, Granato joined the Canucks after working as an NHL scout for the Seattle Kraken.
Her experience as both a player and executive gives her a valuable perspective in hockey operations.
Before entering management, Granato built a legendary career in womens hockey.
She captained Team USA to gold at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and scored the first Olympic goal in U.S.
womens hockey history.
Cammi Granato later helped Team USA win a silver medal at the 2002 Olympics and a World Championship gold medal in 2005.
She ended her international career as the programs top scorer with 343 points in 205 games.
During her career, she received several major honors, including the Lester Patrick Trophy in 2007 and induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.
Granatos new role keeps her scouting expertise and league connections within the organization.
