CONWAY, SC (CCU Athletics) - Coastal Carolina junior right-handed pitcher Cameron Flukey was selected by the Detroit Tigers with the No.
22 overall pick in the first round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.
Flukeys selection makes him the highest Major League Baseball Draft pick in Coastal Carolina baseball history, surpassing Eric Brown, who was selected No.
27 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022.
He also becomes the third first-round selection in program history, joining Brown and Caden Bodine, who was selected No.
30 overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2025 MLB Draft.
With Flukey following Bodine, Coastal Carolina has produced first-round selections in back-to-back MLB Drafts for the first time in program history.
The selection also extends one of the nations longest active streaks, as Coastal Carolina has now had at least one player selected in the MLB Draft in 30 consecutive years, dating back to 1997.
One of the nations premier right-handed pitching prospects throughout his collegiate career, Flukey arrived in Conway in 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the top pitchers in college baseball.

Flukey entered the 2026 season as one of the most decorated players in college baseball.
He was named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List while earning consensus First Team Preseason All-America honors from Baseball America, D1Baseball, Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Baseball America and Perfect Game also named him their Preseason National Pitcher of the Year, while he was selected as the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year and a Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection.
As a sophomore in 2025, Flukey put together one of the finest pitching seasons in program history.
He went 7-2 with a 3.19 ERA over 18 appearances, including 17 starts, while striking out 118 batters in 101.2 innings pitched.
He earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team and garnered D1Baseball Third Team All-America recognition.
He also tossed a complete-game shutout against Marshall on April 18.
Limited to seven starts during his junior campaign because of an early season injury, Flukey returned to the mound late in the season and finished with a 4.13 ERA over 24.0 innings pitched.
He struck out 31 batters, held opponents to a .247 batting average and posted a 1.29 WHIP.
Flukey made his return against Texas State on April 26, striking out four over 2.0 scoreless innings before helping the Chanticleers make another NCAA Tournament appearance.
As a freshman in 2024, Flukey made 19 appearances, including 10 starts, striking out 83 batters over 55.0 innings while laying the foundation for one of the most accomplished pitching careers in Coastal Carolina history.
