Buckeyes' Banged-Up Roster Opens Door for Breakout Stars Against Maryland

The Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for Week 5, but their roster is showing signs of wear and tear. Injuries are beginning to mount, creating both challenges and opportunities for the team. Maryland presents a favorable matchup for some lesser-known players to step up and make a name for themselves. Additionally, this game could serve as a chance to rest banged-up starters before a crucial showdown with Indiana next week, ensuring the Buckeyes are at full strength for the heart of their schedule.

Three specific Buckeyes could capitalize on this opportunity and have a breakout game against the Terrapins.

Chris Henry Jr.

With wide receivers Brandon Inniss and Devin McCuin both listed as questionable on the latest injury report, Chris Henry Jr. is positioned to showcase his abilities. Henry entered the season as a highly anticipated talent, with fans eager to see his raw skills on display. Some even pegged him as the next great receiver for the Scarlet and Grey. So far, he has recorded three receptions—one in each of his three appearances—for 105 yards and two touchdowns. If Inniss and McCuin are unable to go, this could be the game where Henry captures the attention of the entire college football world.

Legend Bey

Legend Bey is another Buckeye whom fans in Columbus have been eager to see take a leap forward. He has seen limited action, primarily on special teams. However, there is a path for him to make an impact beyond the backfield: by getting reps as a receiver. The only game where Bey saw extended playing time was in Week 1 against Ball State, where he carried the ball six times for 37 yards. As a freshman, he has the chance to demonstrate his versatility and multi-tool potential. This might be his prime opportunity to display his raw talent in Big Ten play for all of Columbus to see.

Jay Timmons

On the defensive side, Jay Timmons could emerge as a breakout star against Maryland. Timmons suffered a hamstring injury against Illinois two weeks ago and missed last week's game against Iowa. Prior to the injury, he had accumulated eight total tackles on the season. His return could be a key factor in helping the defense take the next step toward competing for a national title. With Leroy Roker III listed as out for the Buckeyes in the secondary, getting Timmons back on the outside could lead to a significant breakout performance.

While the injury report may look concerning for Buckeyes fans, several players on this year's team are primed to have their breakout game against the Terrapins.
