A recognizable figure from Alabama football's recent past is set to return to Tuscaloosa for the highly anticipated matchup between the Crimson Tide and Georgia. Bryce Young, the former Alabama quarterback and current Carolina Panthers signal-caller, has been announced as the guest picker for ESPN's "College GameDay," which will originate from Tuscaloosa in advance of the prime-time contest.
The show will air from Coleman Coliseum, with inclement weather expected due to Hurricane Isaias. Young, who captured the Heisman Trophy in 2021, concluded his Alabama career with 8,356 passing yards, 162 rushing yards, and 87 total touchdowns. He also contributed to the Crimson Tide's 2020 national championship squad.
Young is the latest in a line of Alabama-connected guest pickers on "College GameDay," joining former Alabama and New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath, Miss Terry—the wife of Nick Saban—and comedian Theo Von.
"College GameDay" will be broadcast on ESPN from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Later that day, Alabama is slated to kick off against Georgia at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
Key Analysis
Young's appearance as guest picker adds another layer of intrigue to an already storied rivalry. His deep ties to the Alabama program and his status as a recent Heisman winner make him a fitting choice to represent the Crimson Tide on a national stage. The presence of such a high-profile alumnus underscores the significance of the matchup and the enduring connection between the university and its football legends.
