BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins stretched their points streak to eight games with a 6-4 triumph over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night, powered by third-period goals from James Hagens and David Pastrnak just 40 seconds apart.
Casey Mittelstadt, Marat Khusnutdinov, Fraser Minten, and Will Morgan also found the net for Boston, which has now won seven of its last eight contests. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman turned aside 21 shots to earn his seventh win of the season.
San Jose received goals from Michael Misa, Kiefer Sherwood, Dmitry Orlov, and Will Smith, while netminder Alex Nedeljkovic made 29 saves. The Sharks had entered the game riding a two-game winning streak.
The teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after two periods, with San Jose answering each Boston go-ahead goal. The Sharks grabbed their first lead of the night when Orlov blasted a one-timer on the power play at 4:03 of the third period. It marked San Jose's third special-teams goal of the game and Orlov's second tally of the season.
Pastrnak, fresh out of the penalty box, took a feed from J.J. Peterka and ripped a shot from the right circle for his seventh goal at 8:27 of the third. The equalizer moved Pastrnak into a tie for third place on the Bruins' all-time goals list with former Boston star Patrice Bergeron at 427 career goals.
Key Analysis
The Bruins' ability to respond after San Jose's power-play strike proved decisive, as Pastrnak's timely goal shifted momentum. Boston's depth scoring, with four different players finding the net, continues to be a key factor in their recent surge. The Sharks, despite three power-play goals, couldn't hold their first lead of the game and saw their brief win streak snapped.
San Jose will next visit Buffalo on Tuesday night, while Boston travels to Carolina on Tuesday night.
