BROWNSBURG, Ind. — The stage is set for a monumental high school football showdown Friday night as Brownsburg welcomes Westfield in a clash between Indiana's top two teams. The rivalry, which has decided the last two Class 6A state titles, adds another chapter under the lights at Roark Stadium.
Brownsburg has dominated the recent series, winning the past six meetings dating back to Sept. 24, 2021, when Westfield last emerged victorious. That streak includes back-to-back state championship game victories over the Rocks. Both teams enter Friday's contest with perfect 5-0 records, fueling speculation that this could be a preview of yet another state final.
The last four encounters between these powerhouses have been decided by a single score, and all signs point to another close battle. Brownsburg boasts a high-powered offense averaging 45 points per game while allowing just over 11 on defense. Westfield counters with an attack that puts up nearly 41 points per contest and surrenders just over 15.
Brownsburg is coming off a 49-10 rout of winless Fishers, and has won every game by at least 23 points except for an Aug. 28 matchup against Georgia powerhouse Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, which the Bulldogs still won comfortably, 31-15. Westfield has been equally dominant, winning each of its games by at least four touchdowns with one exception: a 38-34 shootout victory over Carmel, a team that had been ranked in the top 10 all season until falling to No. 11 this week with its third loss.
The Bulldogs feature several highly-touted recruits, including three standout seniors: wide receiver Branden Sharpe (committed to Indiana), defensive lineman Dami Sowunmi (uncommitted), and interior offensive lineman Nick Vecrumba (committed to Kansas). Westfield's top prospect is three-star senior offensive lineman Nicholas Schurman, who remains uncommitted. While the Rocks may lack the star power of Brownsburg, they operate at the same high level as a team.
The burning question: can Westfield finally break through against the only team that might stand between them and a state title in 2026? Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET Friday at Roark Stadium.
Key Analysis
This matchup could very well determine the eventual state champion. Brownsburg's recent dominance over Westfield, combined with its balanced offense and stout defense, makes the Bulldogs the favorite. However, Westfield's ability to push opponents to the limit—as shown in its shootout win over Carmel—suggests the Rocks are capable of pulling off an upset. The game may hinge on whether Westfield's defense can contain Brownsburg's explosive playmakers and whether the Rocks' offense can capitalize on scoring opportunities. With both teams averaging over 40 points per game, fans could be in for a high-scoring thriller.
