Broncos' Jonah Elliss Sidelined: Linebacker Hits Injured Reserve with Ankle Issue

The Denver Broncos have placed outside linebacker Jonah Elliss on injured reserve because of an ankle injury, ensuring he will miss at least the team's next four games.

The move was expected after Elliss was seen at a college football game last weekend wearing a walking boot and using crutches. He later posted "Be right back" on social media, along with a reference to James 1:2-4, a Bible passage about finding joy in trials that test faith and build perseverance.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton said earlier in the week that the pass rusher's ankle injury is not season-ending. "He's going to be someone that it's not season-ending, and so we're fortunate," Payton said on Wednesday. "So that'll come out later in the week, but it was better news."

Elliss will be unavailable for games against the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders. He becomes eligible to return in Week 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Denver has a bye in Week 10.

To fill Elliss' spot on the 53-man roster, the Broncos activated outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who is back on the active roster after being reinstated by the NFL.
