Cheers reverberated from the Deer District all the way to Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Drive and Juneau Street in Milwaukee as fans assembled on October 23 to witness the Milwaukee Brewers' first World Series appearance in 44 years, following the Milwaukee Bucks' home opener.
The day's festivities kicked off at 3 p.m. with the Bucks hosting the Chicago Bulls. Originally set for 7 p.m., the tip-off was moved to 3 p.m. on October 16 to avoid overlapping with the Brewers' historic return to the Fall Classic, their first since 1982.
Even though the Bucks fell to the Bulls, 132-125, their supporters joined Brewers fans—and a handful of Bulls fans—outside Fiserv Forum to watch the Brewers face the Tampa Bay Rays on a giant screen in the heart of the Deer District.
The free outdoor watch party, organized by Deer District Business Improvement District 53, was held at The Deer Garden. At least 110 fans clustered around the giant screen, while no fewer than 150 others chose to watch inside the district's bars and restaurants, avoiding the chilly 57-degree weather.
Brewers apparel was everywhere, with fans wearing jerseys, hats, and other team gear as they rallied behind Milwaukee. Despite intermittent technical glitches that caused the Jumbotron to fade in and out—prompting boos from the crowd—supporters kept cheering as they watched a clip of Jacob Misiorowski's now-famous Pokémon interview, Fox commentators' revised World Series predictions, and Misiorowski taking the mound to throw his historic first pitch. Clocked at 103.5 mph, it was the fastest pitch ever recorded in the World Series since pitch tracking began in 2008.
