Brendan Sorsby Gets Tough News From NFL Regarding Supplemental Draft

It appears that former college football quarterback Brendan Sorsby won't be playing either college football or professional football when the 2026 seasons kick off.

Well, at least not professionally in the NFL.

On Tuesday afternoon the league announced it will not be holding a supplemental draft, which would have paved the way for Sorsby to enter the NFL following a gambling scandal that effectively ended his college football career.

In a letter to Sorsby, the NFL revealed it didn't plan to hold a supplemental draft even before receiving his petition as no other players sought to enter the league through the draft loophole.

Open "Your Petitionfiled three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctionsdoes not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans," the league said bluntly.

"Available information nonetheless indicates that, over the course of your collegiate career, you knowingly engaged in repeated and significant violations of NCAA rules designed to preserve the integrity of athletic competition," it added.

The league questioned Sorsby's petition, which it alleges failed to provide necessary details regarding his gambling issue and potentially violating state law.

"As Commissioner Goodell has emphasized, participation in the NFL is a privilege that carries with it significant responsibilities, including accountability.

By all accounts, you are a talented player with the potential for future success.

We encourage you to focus on preparing for possible entry into the NFL through the 2027 NFL Annual Draft," it said in conclusion.
