Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk filed for reinstatement with the NFL earlier this week and expressed his intention to report to the team's practice facility on Friday. Instead, Aiyuk and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, arrived outside the team offices.
Rosenhaus addressed the media, with Aiyuk adding brief remarks, as reported by The Post. "Out of respect for you guys, we'll make this brief," Rosenhaus said. "Obviously, Brandon is here to meet with the team. Fortunately, he's feeling good physically. He's healthy and ready to get back to work. We don't really have any comment about where he is going to play. We'll keep that between us and the Niners. Obviously we are here with all of the right intentions."
The team had previously stated that Aiyuk has played his last down for San Francisco. The wide receiver then provided a short statement: "I am feeling grateful and healthy through a long recovery process, rehab process. I am back to 100% and looking to re-extend into the National Football League."
Aiyuk suffered a serious knee injury that required multiligament surgery. According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, Aiyuk owes the 49ers approximately $13 million in bonus forfeiture. The 49ers paid Aiyuk a $23 million signing bonus in 2024 and a $22.9 million option bonus in 2025, totaling $45.9 million. Aiyuk officially left the team about three-fourths of the way through the 2025 season, resulting in a 28% bonus forfeiture.
Niners general manager John Lynch has not minced words when expressing his thoughts toward the wideout. Head coach Kyle Shanahan offered just four words on Friday.
Amidst the controversy, another story has emerged: Aiyuk has an outstanding warrant for his arrest on a reckless driving charge. Police were seen outside the stadium on Friday morning on multiple occasions. It is not known whether Rosenhaus, on behalf of Aiyuk, and the police have worked something out away from the public eye.
This is a developing story with more to follow.
