Bison Ride Special Teams, Hayes' Three TDs to 31-17 Win Over Nevada

In a game that saw North Dakota State trail early, the Bison used a pivotal special teams play and a balanced offensive attack to secure a 31-17 victory over Nevada on Saturday night in Fargo, North Dakota.

Nathan Hayes was responsible for three touchdowns, while Jackson Williams provided the game's most spectacular moment by returning a missed field-goal attempt 100 yards for a score. The win helped North Dakota State bounce back from a 13-7 loss at UNLV the previous week.

Nevada seized momentum early, building an 11-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Bison responded as Williams scored on a 5-yard run and then threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Mekhi Collins to put North Dakota State on the board.

The turning point came when Williams fielded Joe McFadden's 57-yard field-goal attempt that fell short. Williams caught the ball in the end zone, broke a couple of tackles, and raced along the sideline for a touchdown, giving the Bison a 19-11 halftime advantage.

Early in the third quarter, Nevada's AJ Bianco connected with Gary Givens III on a 19-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 19-17. The Wolf Pack attempted a trick play on the ensuing two-point conversion, but the ball was fumbled and recovered by Matthew Stenbroten, who returned it for two points to extend North Dakota State's lead to 21-17.

Hayes sealed the victory with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Reis Kessel early in the fourth quarter. Hayes finished the game completing 19 of 25 passes for 153 yards.

Bianco threw for 190 yards on 17-of-34 passing but was intercepted twice for Nevada, which fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. He also scored on a 15-yard run in the first quarter.

North Dakota State improved to 6-1 and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Bison will travel to New Mexico next Saturday, while Nevada will host San Jose State.

Key Analysis

Special teams proved decisive in this matchup, with Williams' 100-yard return flipping the game's momentum after Nevada had taken an early lead. The Bison's ability to capitalize on the Wolf Pack's failed trick play on the two-point conversion further underscored the importance of execution in critical moments. Hayes' efficient passing and the defense's two interceptions helped North Dakota State secure a crucial conference victory.
