INGLEWOOD, Calif. — In a Monday night showdown that lived up to the hype, the Buffalo Bills outlasted the Los Angeles Rams 37-34 in overtime, thanks to a dramatic blocked field goal and a clutch kick.
Josh Allen totaled 331 yards (210 passing, 121 rushing) and accounted for two touchdowns, while Tyler Bass nailed a 45-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining in the extra period. The kick came moments after Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis's 47-yard field goal attempt, giving Buffalo the momentum they needed.
Allen, who won his first career overtime game, outdueled Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns. "Guys kept chipping away," Allen said. "Don't think we threw it very well in the first half, but guys kept fighting. Got a lot of things to clean up."
The Bills (4-1) rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit. James Cook scored his second touchdown of the game with 1:39 left in regulation to put Buffalo ahead, but the Rams answered when Kyren Williams punched it in from 1 yard out with 4 seconds remaining to force overtime.
In overtime, Buffalo drove deep into Rams territory, but Aaron Donald recovered a James Cook fumble forced by Nate Landman. Stafford then moved the Rams to the Buffalo 30, but Rousseau blocked Mevis's field goal attempt. Allen then scrambled for 19 and 13 yards to set up Bass's game-winner. Bass began celebrating before the officials even signaled the kick was good.
Cook finished with 111 rushing yards despite his fumbling issues. The Bills are off to a 4-1 start for the sixth time in eight seasons. The Rams (2-3) are below .500 after five games for the fourth time in five seasons.
Puka Nacua had a career-high 17 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown for Los Angeles. Davante Adams caught two touchdown passes, tying Larry Fitzgerald for the sixth-most receiving touchdowns in NFL history (121). Blake Corum also rushed for a score, and tight end Tyler Higbee added five catches for 83 yards.
Keon Coleman caught Allen's only touchdown pass for Buffalo. The game featured six consecutive lead changes, reminiscent of the teams' last meeting in December 2024, when they combined for 902 yards in a 44-42 Rams win.
After Adams's second TD catch with 7:14 left in regulation, Allen drove the Bills 71 yards, using two scrambles to set up Cook's go-ahead score. Stafford then completed six of seven passes to move the Rams to the Buffalo 1-yard line, where they opted not to call timeout and Williams scored to tie it.
Injuries: Bills RT Spencer Brown left in the second half with a back injury. Top WR DJ Moore sat out with a shoulder injury.
