Bears Injury Report: Monangai Remains Sidelined, Edwards Week-to-Week

At Halas Hall on Wednesday, the Chicago Bears conducted a walk-through rather than a full practice, but they still released an injury report projecting what participation would have looked like had a full session taken place.

Running back Kyle Monangai, who sat out Sunday's contest due to turf toe, would have been designated as out. Joining him on the sideline would have been linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring), defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo (quad), and linebacker Keyshaun Elliott (quad).

Head coach Ben Johnson described Edwards' status as week-to-week and suggested that Odeyingbo is unlikely to suit up for Sunday's matchup. Meanwhile, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson would have been limited because of a hip issue.

Fellow cornerback Kyler Gordon, who must be activated from the physically-unable-to-perform list by next week or else miss the entire season, would have been a full participant.

Dexter's Departure Revisited

The Bears' decision to trade defensive tackle Gervon Dexter to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for cornerback Clark Phillips III and a fifth-round draft pick has proven beneficial for Dexter. Last month, Atlanta rewarded him with a four-year, $78 million contract extension.

Whether the trade has worked out equally well for Chicago remains debatable, as the team's defense has struggled with consistency. "I think it was a win-win for both sides in terms of him getting a fresh start and going down to a really good style of defense that matches his skillset," Johnson remarked.

No Hallmark Appearance for Johnson

Even during a quiet week, Johnson probably would have skipped the premiere of the Bears-themed Hallmark movie on Tuesday. But this was far from a quiet week, given the blowout loss to the Packers, Montez Sweat's suspension, and ongoing quarterback uncertainties.

When asked if he attended the premiere, Johnson's response was quintessential. "Not a chance," said Johnson, who nevertheless appears in the film.
