Barstool's Big Cat Buys Viral 'Pete Rose' Coffee Table, Calls It 'Worst Purchase'

A one-of-a-kind baseball memorabilia item has found a new owner: a coffee table that may or may not depict Cincinnati Reds icon Pete Rose. The table gained viral attention after being listed on Facebook Marketplace, and now it belongs to Barstool Sports writer and podcaster Dan Katz, also known as @BarstoolBigCat.

In an X post dated October 21, Katz announced the arrival of the 'Pete Rose Coffee Table,' adding, 'Easily the worst thing Ive purchased.' The table had been listed for $1,250 on Facebook Marketplace, where it remained online for seven weeks. Its design features a 66x36 tempered-glass top supported by a sculpture of a sliding baseball player. The listing described the item as being in fair condition.

Former owners John and Angela Parsons, originally from Lima, told The Enquirer they acquired the table from Dudley's Auction in Inverness, Florida. John Parsons said he was informed that the table once sat in the lobby of a Brannen Bank location in Citrus Hills, Florida, but he has not been able to verify that claim. Parsons was also told that the player depicted in the sculpture was Rose, which prompted him to include Rose's name in the Facebook Marketplace description. However, others have suggested the player resembles former Reds catcher Johnny Bench.

Parsons noted that he could not find another table like it online and believed it might be one of a kind. Since he is not a Reds fan, he decided to sell it to someone who might appreciate it. 'It would be a great piece for someone who's a fan with a man cave,' Parsons said.

Key Analysis

The table's journey from a Florida auction to a viral online listing and now to a well-known sports media personality highlights the quirky side of sports fandom and memorabilia collecting. While the identity of the player in the sculpture remains uncertain, the table's notoriety has certainly increased its appeal to collectors and fans alike. The Enquirer has reached out to Dudley's Auction for more information but has not received a response.
