WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Athletics have appointed Taylor Smith as their president of baseball operations, the club announced Monday. The move comes two months after the team said former general manager David Forst would not return next season.
The hiring is intended to help the franchise in its final year in West Sacramento, California, and as it prepares for the 2028 season in Las Vegas.
Smith spent the past two years as assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox and previously worked for the Tampa Bay Rays for seven seasons.
The Athletics finished the 2024 season with a 64-98 record while fielding a young team in its second year at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento. Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein served as interim GM.
Forst had been the team's general manager since 2015 and had been with the organization since 2000.
