Arizona football coach Brent Brennan found a spirited way to thank fans for their support following the Wildcats' dominant 39-3 victory over Iowa State on Saturday. The homecoming matchup at Casino Del Sol Stadium carried significant Big 12 and College Football Playoff implications, and when fans turned out in full force, Brennan decided to show his appreciation with a generous gesture at a local bar.
After the game, Brennan made a stop at Dirtbag's, a popular haunt near the University of Arizona campus where fans gather postgame. There, he ordered 300 tequila shots for the crowd, racked up a $2,000 tab, and departed—all within five minutes.
"For me, I've said it since I got here and it's been a thing for me the whole time I've been a head coach, I think it's important that if you want people to show up for you, you gotta show up for them," Brennan said on Monday. "It was an easy way for me to pop in there, with all of our alumni in town for homecoming, the excitement from the game, to go in there, and say hello and get out."
He added with a laugh: "I was in there for five minutes. It was an expensive five minutes, but it was a good five minutes. Just wanted to invest in our fans and let them know how much we appreciate them as a football team."
But Brennan's generosity didn't start after the final whistle. In the days leading up to the game, knowing tickets were still available, he purchased 1,000 tickets for children involved with the Boys & Girls Club, the Ronald McDonald House, local football leagues, and other area clubs.
"So, as you know, we just want to make it available to as many people as we can," Brennan said. "And I thought this was a really easy way to engage some really some groups that are important to me, but also give some people a chance to see this football team play."
Key Analysis
Brennan's dual gestures—rewarding fans with postgame shots and providing game access to underserved children—highlight a coach who understands the importance of community engagement. Such actions are rare in college football, and the positive reaction throughout Tucson underscores how genuine appreciation can strengthen the bond between a program and its supporters.
