Analyst asks big question for Duke Basketball in 2026-27 season The countdown to the 2026-27 college basketball season continues on.
For the Duke Blue Devils, the expectations are very high again and they are excited to get back on the court after a disappointing end to the season.
Duke blew a 17-point lead in the Elite Eight to UConn, failing to make it back to the Final Four.
But in four years under Scheyer, they have reached the Elite Eight three times and have made it to the Final Four once.
While they have had success under Scheyer, they haven't won a national title or made an appearance in a title game.
At some point, that will get disappointing for a program that expects to be in the running every year.

Scheyer, to his credit, has gotten back up off the mat and built another elite Duke roster.
But the reality is that he could go undefeated in the ACC this year and none of it would matter for more than a few.
Scheyer will always have this perception until he wins a National Championship.

Duke has had a lot of memorable moments under Scheyer, however, there are moments that mask that.
Duke has to be able to close the deal when they are in that spot.
They haven't won a national championship in 10 years now but have knocked on the door a couple of times since.
But those moments have ended in heartbreak.
