Alabama basketball head coach Nate Oats, aged 55, has wed a former employee 24 years his junior. The college basketball coach married Alex Accetta, 31, last weekend after a low-key divorce from his previous spouse.
Assistant coach Brian Adams provided a behind-the-scenes look at the nuptials on social media. "Congrats @alex_accetta & @nateoats #RollTide," Adams captioned his Instagram post. Oats was pictured with his new wife alongside several Crimson Tide colleagues, including athletics director Greg Byrne.
The wedding occurs just three years after Oats divorced his former wife, Crystal Oats. The pair had been married in 1997 and spent 26 years together before separating. They share three daughters: Lexie, Jocelyn, and Brielle.
Oats first connected with Accetta when he was hired as Alabama's head coach. Accetta initially served as the team's operations coordinator after working as a student assistant. She was later promoted to director of operations in 2021. However, Accetta left the college the following year to join the NBA's Dallas Mavericks in a guest experience and operations role. The pair stayed in touch and became engaged in April.
Oats is now gearing up for his eighth season leading Alabama. Under his guidance, the team has qualified for March Madness every year, and in 2024, the Crimson Tide reached the Final Four for the first time in program history. Alabama is set to face Ole Miss in the Ballin in Boutwell showcase on Thursday, October 15.
