Aaron Rodgers Trusts NFL Security for Paris Game Despite Protests

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers voiced his trust in the NFL's ability to handle security for the upcoming game in Paris, which is set to take place despite recent civil unrest in the city. Rodgers made these comments during a press conference at a downtown hotel on Friday, shortly after the team landed in the French capital for their Sunday matchup against the New Orleans Saints at Stade de France.

Rodgers emphasized that the league is fully aware of the situation. He stated that the game holds significant importance for the NFL and reasoned that if conditions were unsafe, the team would not have made the trip. "I definitely think that the NFL is alert to what's going on," Rodgers said. "This game means a lot to the NFL. If it was unsafe, then I'm sure we wouldn't be here."

The Steelers had to cancel their scheduled morning practice at Stade de France due to inclement weather. The team announced that the session, planned for 11 a.m. local time, was called off 90 minutes in advance because of wind and light rain in Paris on Friday morning. The team had flown overnight from Pittsburgh specifically for this outdoor practice.

Sunday's game will proceed as planned, even as demonstrations are expected across Paris and other French cities over the weekend. On Thursday evening, the U.S. State Department issued a security alert warning that various groups have submitted plans for protests on Saturday, October 24. The alert advised Americans in Paris for the NFL game on Sunday, October 25, to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings. It also noted that while permits may be filed for demonstration routes, last-minute changes can occur, and protests might take place outside of planned areas.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned on Wednesday that he had been in contact with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and that league officials are maintaining communication with Parisian and French authorities. "We've made all the preparations," Goodell said. "Protests are not unusual in France, as you know, and that's something that we will be aware of and make sure that the appropriate arrangements are made."

A weekend event for Steelers fans was canceled on Thursday due to security concerns. Meanwhile, the Saints are based in Versailles and practice at Stade Municipal Montbauron. Due to elevated wind and rain conditions, and in accordance with local authorities, the league informed journalists via email that there would be no media viewing portion during the Saints' practice at Stade Municipal Montbauron on Friday.

The Saints traveled directly to Paris from New York after defeating the Giants last Sunday. Their hotel and practice facility are located in Versailles, just outside Paris.
