Aaron Glenn Owns Up to 'Disappointment' as Jets Fall to 0-5 Start

The New York Jets' winless start continued on Sunday with a 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins, who secured their first victory of the season. The defeat dropped the Jets to 0-5 and intensified scrutiny on head coach Aaron Glenn.

Glenn, hired ahead of the 2025 season, has compiled a 5-19 record since the start of last year. His job security is now a major topic, and some speculate he could be the first coach fired in the 2026 NFL season. Despite external criticism, Glenn has not shied away from self-evaluation.

Opening his post-game press conference, Glenn said: "When it comes to this game, highly disappointed, disappointed in myself first and foremost. We all have to get better. Coaching, playing, everything that we're doing, we have to get better. But, the thing is, this is seven games. We still have a number of games left, and that's how we look at it. We know what's going to happen from the outside in, we accept that. It is what it is."

Despite the bleak outlook, Glenn remains optimistic about the team's direction. "I would say yes. The reason why I would say that is 'cause there's no quit in these guys," Glenn said. "I know what the record is, I do, but I know what I feel about these players and how hard these players play. Come out the second half, it was probably doom and gloom from everything outside of it. But inside this locker room, the guys were ready to go and I think they showed up. I know that we're not where we need to be, but I totally believe that we're on the right track."

The Jets have long been associated with struggles, but this season they don't even hold the worst record—that distinction belongs to the winless Los Angeles Chargers. However, New York has been competitive, with all but one of their losses coming by a single score. The team has had opportunities to win four additional games but failed to capitalize.

Frustration is mounting among the players as well. During Sunday's game, cameras captured a heated exchange between wide receiver Garrett Wilson and quarterback Geno Smith. That moment could serve as a catalyst for the Jets to turn their season around.

Key Analysis

Glenn's willingness to shoulder blame while maintaining belief in his team's trajectory reflects a coach trying to keep his locker room united amid adversity. The narrow margins of defeat suggest the Jets are not far from contention, but moral victories won't quiet the critics. With each loss, the pressure on Glenn intensifies, and the coming weeks will reveal whether his optimism is justified or merely delaying the inevitable.
