San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner is widely regarded as one of the NFL's premier defensive players.
However, the four-time All-Pro's 2025 season was cut short by a significant right ankle injury, a setback that appears to have impacted his standing among his peers.
The NFL continued its countdown of the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026, with Warner landing at No.
54fittingly, the same number he wears on his jersey.
The ranking marks a significant drop from last year's No.
16 spot, with his injury playing a major role in the decline.

"He's a guy who can cover anybody.

With him on the field last season, San Francisco allowed just 5.5 yards per attempt on play-action passes.
Without its star linebacker, that figure jumped to 7.9 yards per attempt.
Over eight NFL seasons, Warner has totaled 948 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 10 interceptions, 56 passes defensed, 17 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries.
Warner is just the second 49ers player revealed in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 countdown.
