White Sox and Nate Mondow agree minor league deal

White Sox to sign infielder Nate Mondow to a minor league deal, according to MLB.com’s transaction logs. It’s unclear if he’ll attend the big league camp.

Mondou spent his entire career with the Oakland organization. A 13th-round pick in the 2016 draft, the Wake Forest product reached Triple-A by the start of the 2021 campaign. He spent most of the past two years at his affiliate in Las Vegas top, posting surprisingly similar numbers in both seasons. Mondou followed his .282/.371/.432 in 2021 with a .283/.374/.431 line last year. He had above-average strikeouts and walks in both seasons, but the hitter-friendly Pacific his coast hit with modest power in his league.

That consistency earned Mondow a cup of coffee at the end of a lost season in Auckland. He earned promotion in the final week of the year, starting at second base and going 0-3 on base. It is the only big league appearance of his career to date. Oakland kicked him off their 40-man roster after the season, and he elected minor league free agency unclaimed.

Mondow could slot behind them on the depth chart and start the season with Triple-A Charlotte. Primarily a second baseman, Mondu also played sparse time at third base, left field, and shortstop in the minors.
