Deuce Robinson explains why he won’t sign Wednesday, how MLB Draft will affect his future

The biggest goal remaining for Georgia in the 2023 hiring cycle is no decision on Wednesday. Deuce Robinson, the nation’s number one tight end prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, said in an interview with ESPN that no decisions have been made regarding his college plans.

“To be honest, I’m still in a complete state of not knowing where I want to go,” Robinson said. “It’s been a long process, and it’s been a fun process. We’re still not convinced of that. When I make a decision, I want to be at peace with it. I’m fully convicted.” I don’t want to go anywhere, I want to be there for three years, but maybe more.”

The three schools Robinson is considering are Georgia, USC and Texas. He has visited all three of his programs, and Kirby His Smart, Lincoln Riley, and Steve Sarkisian all visited his home to meet Robinson during this recent hiring period.

But Robinson has another option. He’s a legitimate Major League Baseball prospect, most recently holding his workouts privately with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego He Padres.

“That’s definitely the goal,” Robinson said of being drafted. “Hopefully I get drafted and I have to make a decision from there. I’m going to play college football, but obviously, it’s definitely playing a role. It influences decisions.”

Robinson is listed at 6 feet 6 inches and 225 pounds and shares a similar frame with New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. In terms of football prospects, all four recruiting services consider Robinson the number one tight end, while the On3 consensus lists Phoenix 17th overall as the standout player.

Robinson won’t make a decision on National Sign Day, but added that he still has plans to play college football.

“I’m going to go where it fits the plan. I’m a very unique player and something I can bring to the table,” Robinson said. I’m going to go to a place.I want to go to a place where I have a great relationship with the coaching staff and new recruits.On the baseball side of it.I want the coaches to work well together.I want to see my potential in both sports. I hope I can make the most of it.”

Robinson’s father, Dominic Robinson, played football and baseball at Florida State University. Dominic Robinson was also in Florida when Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was the Seminole’s alumni assistant.

Regarding the timeline for when the decision will be made, Deuce Robinson said he wants to do it before move-in date, which is usually right after Memorial Day in Georgia. , apparently set to take place in July, after Robinson’s move-in date.

“I want to train with those guys over the summer,” Robinson said. We’ll see where it takes us from there.”

Robinson added that names, images, and likenesses are “prevalent” in his college decisions, because that’s how all college recruits are now.

He stressed that he didn’t want to make a decision about it.

“It feels like every school we’ve narrowed down to.”

Georgia has already signed two of its top tight-end prospects for the 2023 recruiting cycle. Pierce Spurlin and Lawson Lackey are already on campus, training off-season in Georgia.

The Bulldogs have 25 signatories in their recruiting class for 2023, which ranks number two in the nation for the cycle.
