After sparking the Penn State offense with a fifth-year transfer, forward Penelope Hocking is off to the big leagues.
Hocking was selected 7th overall by the Chicago Red Stars in Thursday’s 2023 NWSL Draft.
Hocking made a name for himself on the West Coast. Born in Anaheim, California, she played SoCal Blues football for her club during high school, and according to Top Drawer Soccer, she was ranked 20th in the 2018 recruiting class.
After joining USC, Hocking made an immediate impact and won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Award in 2018.
By her senior season, Hocking had scored 54 goals over four seasons in the programme, making her the Trojans’ all-time goalscoring leader.
In her only season as a Nittany Lion, Hocking led the Big Ten with seven goals and 11 assists last season.
