Utah Jazz rookie center Walker Kessler has been named a participant in the Rising Stars Game of the 2023 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. The exhibition event will consist of freshman and his sophomore players as well as NBA G Ignite players selected by his NBA assistant his coach.
When Kessler came in the Rudy Gobert trade from Minnesota, jazz fans had no idea what Kessler got. But so far, it’s safe to say that Walker has exceeded all expectations. Kessler is only averaging 7.7 ppg and 7.3 rebounds in 20 minutes of work.
The 7-foot big man was recently added to the starting line-up, and the Jazz are 9-4, playing at least 25 minutes a game. Whether or not head coach Will Hardy continues to give Kessler starting minutes now that Kelly Olynyk has returned from an ankle injury remains to be seen, but a small sample size shows the Jazz’s performance when he’s on the court. It has been shown to be much better.
Jazz assistant coach Jason Terry and former jazz player Deron Williams have also been confirmed to participate in the exhibition games as legendary coaches. The three-day tournament kicks off on February 17th at 7pm MDT at He Vivint Arena.
