2023 MLB Farm System Rankings

Throughout January, we provided the top 50 prospects for each of the 30 teams. It’s time for our 3rd Annual Minor League Baseball Organization Rankings.

Twenty-eight Prospects1500 writers each ranked organizations from 1 to 30 and aggregated their points to create a system-wide ranking. To determine these rankings, organizations were awarded points according to their position on each writer’s list (eg, 1st = 28 points, 30th = 1 point).

If you want to see how each writer’s individual ranking and overall point total came about, you can view the ranking spreadsheet.

Additionally, each team’s correspondent provides a short 30,000 foot view snapshot of the minor league organization. These comments are included in each ranking on this list. The ranking of all 30 farm systems in 2023 is counting down from 30th to 1st. Feel free to compare with the 2022 farm system rankings if you like.

30. Atlanta Braves
Following their World Series win in 2021, the Braves are in full win-now mode. That said, Alex Anthopoulos and staff are busy replenishing minor league coffers. As usual, the focus remains on pitching, but the system also has a few hitters poised for breakouts. -Michael Kelly (@MKelley_ND)

29. San Diego Padres
The Padres have been great at setting their sights in the last few years, and they need a job if they want to continue the trend. In a barren system, hope rests on a recent international signature, but let’s be honest, if it develops into something decent, it could be traded quickly. -Alex Sanchez (@Alex_W_Sanchez)

28. Houston Astros
Don’t let their ranking fool you. The Astros produce solid big leaguers who serve the organization for a long time. Will they debut for the Astros? Maybe not, but that’s why every team’s fans should be paying attention. -Eric Killian (@USKillian)

27. Chicago White Sox
With the emergence of Colson Montgomery, Oscar Chorus and a few other hopefuls, the White Sox are witnessing the dawn of new horizons. The 2022 draft focused on recruiting pitching staff. The upcoming season will prove just how fruitful their efforts have been. – Dan Victor (@slydanno70)

26. Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have improved their farm system over the last few years through drafts and international signings. Two of him, Andrew Painter and Mick Abel, are two of his top pitching contenders in his league in the minors, with many other capable pitchers further down the system. On the other side of the ball, they’re also attracting intriguing prospects for lower minors. But the development of true impact hitters has been lacking for years. 25. Los Angeles Angels
Drafting over 40 pitchers in three years in one of the most underrated farming systems allowed us to build depth in the areas we needed. The system lacks striking depth overall, but has improved in the latest draft. -Andrew Rhodes (@A_Rhodes77)

24. Kansas City Royals
The Royals are a bottom 10 system entering 2023, graduating from highly touted prospects and some borderline regulars. Like the front, the system is also in transition. The Royals have a dozen pitching candidates that are difficult to rate and a lower-order minor hitter to watch. 23. Detroit Tigers
What was once a top three farm system has collapsed with graduation and talent regression. The Tigers’ organization has little depth, but the new leadership can focus on the high-ceilinged prospects at the top of the team’s rankings. -Kurt Moody (@DET_Guru_Kurt)

22. Seattle Mariners
The Mariners’ farm system may have failed, but that’s because it did exactly what it was designed to do: either produce major leaguers or allow them to acquire more players. 21. Toronto Blue Jays
A farm system that was near the top just a few years ago has fallen to the bottom half of the rankings after trading off a number of prospects to strengthen its team. play off. There are still a handful of players left who could make his MLB debut in 2023, including LHP frontrunner Ricky Tiedemann. They also made some good picks in the early rounds of the 2022 draft. 20. Oakland Athletics
Once Auckland’s regular demolition is complete and the dust settles, the farm’s bigger picture becomes clearer. Outside of Tyler Soderstrom and Zack Gelof, there are no sure position player bets, but there is hope. 19. San Francisco Giants
Hampered by numerous injuries and developmental errors, the system’s ascent trajectory stalled. But despite that dim view of the farm, there are easily six players looking to establish themselves as big leaguers this season. Boasting 25 prospects. 18. Minnesota Twins
With the team now more focused on winning, the most likely within the Twins’ farm system is something more long-term. There are some young names, but it’s clear that the focus is on harnessing potential to acquire proven talent. -Dave Funnell (@sportz_nutt51)

17. Miami Marlins
A few years ago, Miami’s farm system ranked near the bottom. They’re a mid-tier system now, and I think that’s due to their ability to develop their pitching. 16. New York Mets
Depth piece or trade piece? There’s plenty of future MLB talent in the system, but Steve Cohen is quick to answer that question as the Mets continue their All-or-Nothing World Series push. -Philip Frank (@PhilipFrank18)

15. Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers system continues to grow in depth, especially in the outfield with hitters. Despite lacking top-class pitching prospects, they have a reputation for producing a big-league arsenal. Milwaukee has paved the way for some of the prospective young hitters to debut in 2023. -David Gasper (@dgasper24)

14. Washington Nationals
Few teams in the lower minors have more high-end talent than the Nationals. Names like James Wood, Elijah Green, Brady House, Cristhian Vaquero and Jarlin Susana have yet to play his first innings beyond single A. The system is a big step forward following the Juan Soto trade and has the potential to continue moving up these rankings based on the growth of some of these players. – Caleb Sanders (@UpNextMiLB)

13. Colorado Rockies
Rocky’s system is full of players in high-impact positions with great potential. If their pitching develops, Colorado could very well run into the top 10 minor league organizations. -Brian Fonseca (@100percent3G)

12. New York Yankees
The Yankees have many prospects for farm systems backing big league teams, including Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells and Oswaldo Peraza. There are still many players who could fly the ranking boards, such as Brandon Meir, Spencer Jones and Roderick Arias. 2023 will be a big year for farm systems to help big league teams and continue to improve their prospect inventory at lower levels. – Paul Woodin (@PaulWoodin1)

11. Boston Red Sox
It’s a rising system, with four top 100 prospects overall. Miguel Brais has a lot of helium in the exploration industry right now, and Triston Casas could be in contention for AL Rookie of the Year. It is a heavy system with only one pitcher and an offensive top. – Scott Green (@Scotty_Ballgame)

10. Chicago Cubs
Headlined by a star-studded group of outfielders, the outlook for the Cubs system has improved significantly over the years. While that’s a bit of an understatement for the big-league club’s immediate boost, the organization is well-positioned to complement his winning Cubs team in 2024 and beyond. – Daniel Hoyle (@ATXRainDog)

9. St. Louis Cardinals

8. Pittsburgh Pirates

7. Texas Rangers
The Rangers’ farm system has continued to climb in the rankings over the past few seasons, with a massive influx of pitching prospects and several Tier 1 hitters ready to make a splash. Big-ticket contracts over the past few seasons have allowed the young pitcher to develop a few more years, but Texas will count on these weapons if it wants to improve at the big league level in the future. –Byron Cox (@byrontx)

6. Tampa Bay Rays
The confluence of elite international signers and draft selections over the past few seasons has allowed the Rays organization to remain one of the deepest in all of baseball. , the Rays organization is still brimming with exciting young athletes, and the club has proven its ability to capitalize on those talents and develop players who will make a difference at the next level. – Jake Wiener (@GatorSosa)

5. Cleveland Guardians

4. Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are a much improved system starring Elly De La Cruz and Noelvi Marte, but there’s a lot of depth behind those two. There is definitely a lot of influential talent in this system. -Daryl Hauck (@DarylHauck)

3. Arizona Diamondbacks
Major League Baseball wants to return to action-packed games. The Diamondbacks have the type of high-end prospect that helps them do just that. With speed, defense, and contact hitting, this farm system is remarkable. -John Dodge (@blacksox96)

2. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers and their development program are Diamond Standard and pun intended, with an exemplary front office, scouting system and coaching staff. There are no signs of them slowing down. -Nate Eckhart (@GQ__82)

1. Baltimore Orioles
It’s the best system in baseball and not even close to being real. Six of his top 10 prospects are likely to graduate to Baltimore in 2023, and top two Gunnar Henderson and Grayson Rodriguez are both frontrunners for Rookie of the Year. – Ryan James (@RyanJames5)
