New Orleans, LA.- The first half of the season is recorded, All-Star votes are tallied, and revenues are reported by NBA accountants. The latest update from the league has Stephen Curry the jersey sales chart champion once again, but there’s one big name missing from the top 10: Zion Williamson is number 14.
Curry and the Golden State Warriors won another Larry O’Brien Trophy. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in the future, it makes perfect sense to put these bragging rights on top.
The same goes for the team rankings dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James is a close second to Curry. Anthony Davis (13th) saw immediate sales on their move from New Orleans, and Russell Westbrook still has fans in his hometown, helping the Lakers stay high in the team’s standings.
Granted, Pelicans is a small market. But Williamson is putting up billboards all over the world thanks to his partnership with Nike. Doing so hurt Williamson, and in turn hurt the team when it came to moving goods.
It’s the old NASCAR adage, “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.” The more fans see Williamson on the court, the more likely they are to purchase a jersey or shoes for themselves. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and Kevin Durant rounded out the top five.
Durant played Kyrie Irving (15) in New York City.th). Doncic and Antetokounmpo have been rocking their teams to the playoffs night after night. They’re all global names hoop fans see several times a week. Williamson is a week away from being away for several weeks.
To counteract the crowded small market debate, the Bucks and Mavericks are second in their respective markets, according to college and hockey loyalty, after the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. It is also a third option in some cases. Both of these teams had playoff hopes going into the final week, unlike neighboring New Orleans Saints.
Back on the list, Jason Tatum (7th), Devin Booker (8th), Joel Embiid (9th), Damian Lillard (10th) complete the top 10 behind Morant. Trae Young (11th) and lamelo balls (12th) also finished the first half of the schedule in front of Williamson.
All the other names on this list, aside from Ball, who has amassed a legion of fans on social media since middle school, have one thing in common that Williamson lacks. line.
(Embiid is one of the Kawhi Leonards who bounced back from the Toronto Raptors shortening its final qualifier to the lone conference finalist.)
Neither Trey, Dame nor Luca made it to the NBA Finals. The rest of these All-NBA talent have played for the title, well, with the exception of Ja, the Memphis Grizzlies are vying for his home court advantage while the Pelicans are down the order. With New Orleans only 36 games left in the postseason, Williamson will miss at least a few more games as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Not only do these miss the chance to build chemistry with arguably the most important team, but they also throw out some highlight dunks that move the product. All it takes is one thing to get a new wave of attention for the NBA jersey.
