The weather was cold and the food was warm for the Oxnard College men’s soccer team’s memorable trip to Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
“It didn’t matter what the weather was,” said Odin Rosten. “Everything was good. There was a lot going on.”<\/p>\n
Rosten and Ross Greaney attended the United Soccer Coaches’ National Convention last weekend and won the National Player of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year awards respectively.<\/p>\n
They were honored in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III category.<\/p>\n
“It was incredible,” Rosten said. “I didn’t expect this to happen. The surprise continues.”<\/p>\n Rosten scored two goals, including the winning goal with four minutes remaining, to promote Oxnard College to the California Community College Athletic Association men’s soccer state championship in a 2\u20131 win over Mount San Antonio on December 12. decided and won the prize. 4 Sacramento.<\/p>\n The St Bonaventure High sophomore attacker has eight goals and 11 assists in 23 appearances.<\/p>\n “Odin is a game changer,” said Greenie. \u201cHe was a game changer in the first game against Palomar. It comes from skill, speed, attitude and tactical awareness.”<\/p>\n Oxnard finished the season 22-1-1.<\/p>\n “It was a great experience,” said Rosten. \u201cI have made a lot of really close friends through this Oxnard team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n Greaney was named National Coach of the Year after leading the Condors to their first state championship in 2015.<\/p>\n “I’m saying it’s not a fluke,” said Greenie. “Good things happen at Oxnard College.”<\/p>\n Greenie, who is also a graduate of St. Bonaventure High School, shared the honor with the players who “did all the work.”<\/p>\n “It’s really cool to win this award twice,” said Greenie.<\/p>\n\n The Coach of the Year Award has been renamed to Coaching Staff of the Year.<\/p>\n “When they say Staff of the Year, it applies to Oxnard,” Greenie said.<\/p>\n Mr. Greaney has Assistants Dorian Guerrero and Alan Zaragoza, Athletic Director Jonas Crawford, Administrative Assistant Lori Jay, Athletic Academic Counselor Julius Munyanwal, Retention Specialist Melissa Gutierrez, and Financial Aid. He said he shares the award with counselor Roberta Chinnery and equipment manager Chris Schmidt.<\/p>\n\n “There are a lot of people who help the players off the field,” said Greenie. \u201cIt has allowed me to focus on helping my players on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n Rosten is the second player for Oxnard to win the award.
