Minnesota boxer and former WBA \u201cRegular\u201d World Champion Jamal \u201cShango\u201d James will make his comeback on Saturday, February 25 at the Premier Boxing Champions event at The Armory, Minneapolis. <\/p>\n
Armory favorite James (27-2-12 KOs) will take on Argentinian veteran Alberto Palmetta (18-1-13 KOs) as part of Showtime’s televised tripleheader.<\/p>\n
A world title fight in the 140-pound division is headline on the card. In the main event, Puerto Rican hard-hitting Sabriel Matias (18-1, 18 KO) will take on Argentina’s Jeremiah Spons\u00e9 (30-0, 20 KO) for his IBF junior lightweight championship.<\/p>\n
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Elvis Rodriguez is set to clash with Joseph Adorno as part of a televised card.<\/p>\n
The Minneapolis native is determined to prove he’s still a top contender at the 147-pound division.<\/p>\n
“Every game is important. I don’t want to lose any fight,” James said. “This fight is obviously very important because it puts me on track to have another title chance. It’s also important to let people know that I’m still confused. So it’s time to remind people that at 147 Jamal ‘Shango’ James is here to take over.<\/p>\n
James hasn’t boxed since losing the WBA ‘regular’ welterweight title to Rajav Butaev in Las Vegas in October 2021.<\/p>\n
Palmetta hopes to ruin James’ return. The 2016 Olympian and battle-tested southpaw poses a tough challenge for Minneapolis fighters. Most recently, in November, Palmetta won his third-round TKO over Thomas Mendez. <\/p>\n
“It always feels good to fight in the Armory,” James said. “That’s the love of my hometown. It definitely feels good to be back in the ring and fighting in front of an audience after so long.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
