But if her efforts on Tuesday night are any indication, her sophomore year has been a huge improvement.

Brophy hunted down a ball San Juan Hills tried to clear from the penalty box and volleyed in the 18th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 victory. 1.

The scoring sequence began with 5-foot-10 Brophy leaping in front of a defender and delivering a high pass into the center of the stallion’s penalty area. The ball bounced sideways, but above her head, before San Clemente’s Rachel Millard sent it back toward Brophy. Brophy chased and quickly caught the deflection in the air with his left foot.

Her strike from the 18-yard line went high into the net, her second goal of the season.

Through all the bounces in play, Brophy never seemed to lose sight of the ball.

“When I was a kid, I had a hard time looking at the ball, so[now]I’m really focused,” said the first-grade international. “It feels great to win on our home ground and to contribute to that is great.”

Brophy’s goal and San Clemente’s defense gave the Tritons (10-1-4, 1-0-1) their first loss to the San Juan Hills (10-1-3, 2-1-0).

Division 1 sixth-placed San Clemente relied on a backline of Maria McMahon, Addy Brislen, Samantha Lee and Isabella Maselli to contain an attacking surge in the second half by Division 1 eighth-placed San Juan Hills.

Goalkeepers Riley McCleish and Addison Robertson combined to accomplish a shutout for the defending league champions Tritons.

San Juan Hills threatened late behind defender Peyton Leonard. The senior inspired the Stallion with his physical defense and contributed several long throw-ins.

Robertson had a great Megan Swift shot in the 52nd minute.

“I thought it was a pretty even game,” said San Juan Hills manager Pharrell Moore. I won by the minute.”

San Juan Hills will host San Clemente on January 28th.

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] Support high school sports coverage by becoming a digital subscriber.subscribe now San Clemente — San Clemente forward Camille Brophy admits he’s not always great

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[1

post-8617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","two-columns
["GET
