The New England Patriots offense is the reason the team missed the postseason. It’s that simple. And Bill Belichick seemed to confirm it when he issued a press release stating that New England would be looking for a new offensive coordinator this offseason, with interviews beginning this week.<\/p>\n

The Patriots had one of the best defenses in the NFL. A very good unit, he finished the year with his seven touchdowns, a franchise record. Still, New England finished 17th in the league in scoring (21.4 PPG).<\/p>\n

Mack Jones said he would like to have “a tougher coaching” this year. He spent multiple games showing his frustration with the coaching staff.The match between Jones and offensive playcaller Matt Patricia apparently wasn’t intended. The Patriots may move from Jones this offseason, but it may be a little premature. <\/p>\n

O’Brien was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator in 2011, and New England ranked third in points per game and second in total yards in the NFL. Arizona fired him after the team flopped to a 4-13 record this season. It became clear that Kingsbury was not ready to run his entire NFL team. But violation? But if New England wanted to try again, they could get a guy like Robinson, who played quarterback for the Patriots in 2010 and can actually teach that offense. and Joe Judge was teaching the offense, New England seemed out of its depth. <\/p>\n

If Robinson wants to run his own offense, and get out from under Sean McVay’s wing, he can come to New England and build it from scratch. I can’t. If not, the Patriots could pursue another hungry young coach from his system in Shanahan or McVay in San Francisco and Miami.<\/p>\n

Former Adam Gase <\/strong>jet<\/strong> head coach<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Patriots may reportedly be interested in Gase, who was good friends with former Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. And while there’s a lot of overlap between coaching chains, Gus worries me for one simple reason: He’s been out of the NFL since 2020.<\/p>\n

You may have been a great coordinator in 2015, but since then? He has nothing to show for himself.<\/p>\n

Chad O’Shea <\/strong>browns<\/strong> WR coach <\/strong><\/p>\n

O’Shea is another connection through the web from Belichick. He was the Patriots’ receiving coach for 10 years from 2009 to 2018.<\/p>\n

He currently works for the Browns as the team’s receiver coach and passing game coordinator. utilized. <\/p>\n

O’Shea was a solid offensive coordinator for the Dolphins in 2019, but was surprisingly fired a year later. He deserves another shot – and New England may give him one.<\/p>\n

Matt Patricia, Patriots offensive playcaller<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Joe Judge, Patriots QB Coach<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Judge ran the New England quarterback’s room this season. If Belichick wants to promote someone in-house, Judge makes sense in Belichick’s form. obtained. <\/p>\n

The judge’s problem is his history with quarterbacks (and receivers). A judge nearly ruined Daniel Jones’ career in New York. Judge hasn’t done all that good against New England’s Mac Jones.And Judge hasn’t had much success as a receivers coach in New England in 2019. I was one of the coordinators, but the judge doesn’t give much benefit to the attacking side of the ball.<\/p>\n

Nick Carey, Patriots TE coach<\/strong><\/p>\n

While it’s fun to consider external candidates, Belichick loves being promoted from within. This is the last internal candidate. And Kaley might be the in-house candidate most likely to get that gig. <\/p>\n

Carey stood behind while Patricia and Judge competed for the playcalling role during training camp, as he was the only coach to prevent Belichick from moving to the Las Vegas Raiders along with McDaniels. Belichick’s decision to block Cayley’s departure made it seem like the Patriots would promote him. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. <\/p>\n

And if Kaley does well in his new assignments this year, Belichick may consider promoting him to the OC role in 2023.<\/p>\n
