That’s the main thing for the rest of the year.”

Trae Young added 24 points and the Hawks, who have never lost, are back at .500.

In a matchup of teams looking to move up from their current position as the Eastern Conference’s play-in team, Miami (24-21) ended a three-game winning streak despite Jimmy Butler’s 34 points. Butler’s two free throws from him ended the run and cut Atlanta’s lead to his 80–72.

Atlanta played uptempo on offense and pushed the pace, but the Heat ended the Hawks’ 40-game streak with more than 100 points, in contrast to a 106-98 loss in Miami on Nov. 27. rice field.

After missing the last 10 games with a strained right calf, center Clint Capela has scored 12 points off the bench.

pick up the pace

In games, Atlanta shot 59.2% from the field (45 of 76) and made 3 in 13 of 27 games.

Hawks coach Nate McMillan said it was important for his team to be aggressive before the game, but he didn’t settle for quick 3-pointers.

“That was my mentality. Be aggressive and get into the paint,” Young said. “…we’re making more shots and getting more stops. That’s the difference.”

honor the king’s dream

A sell-out crowd of 18,007 attended the game, including former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young, a 90-year-old civil rights leader who worked alongside Martin Luther King in Atlanta.
