At today’s Cardinals Care Winter Warmup event, we learned some interesting uniform-related tidbits courtesy of St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III.<\/p>\n

First, the fact that Nike is proposing to limit major league teams to four overall uniforms and one City Connect set.<\/p>\n

“Nike is doing all the jerseys now. The thing to point out about Nike is that they came to all the clubs and said, ‘We really want to streamline the jerseys.'” , there’s a model they want to stick to called ‘four plus one,'” said DeWitt III. Transcript by St. Louis Post-Dispatch<\/strong>\u201cYou can wear four jerseys: home, road and two alternates.<\/p>\n

This was hinted at last year when questions arose about eliminating the New York Mets’ road blue alternative, but was never confirmed. in favor of their home black set<\/strong>This is probably a good thing overall. Some clubs went a little overboard with their uniform options. This allows teams to use a lineup of whites, greys, primary color alternatives, and secondary color alternatives.<\/p>\n

Teams this could affect include the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays. All of these teams had four or more regular uniform options (excluding City Connect) during the 2022 season. We’ll see what these clubs do to slip under his 23-year 4-plus-1 cap.<\/p>\n

Speaking of City Connect, let’s turn to the next news revealed by DeWitt III.<\/p>\n
