Regional soccer high school programs continue to play tournaments as they prepare for district competitions in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

The Weatherford Kangaroos begin a new era as manager Marcos Zamarone takes over the men’s programme.<\/p>\n

In his first year at Roos, Zamarron was quick to let his team know his thoughts.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been setting my expectations for this year from the beginning,” he said. “The first thing I confirmed was that I love them and they know that all I do from then on is to help them grow on and off the pitch. My top priority is to create respectful and disciplined young men.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the season, I prepare myself physically for the games.<\/p>\n

Substituting a starter can be a daunting task, but Weatherford Lady Ruth football head coach Jeffrey Hunt and his staff have a large group to choose from to set up the lineup.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a lot to decide who will succeed an alumni,\u201d says Hunt. \u201cSelecting from the pool of girls who were on the national team last year is what we are looking for, even if they come off the bench. Talented and a first role for some teams.”<\/p>\n

The Aled Bearcats will return nine starters from last year’s playoff team.<\/p>\n

Even as players graduate and move up the ranks, the traditions passed down by seniors to juniors continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cTradition never ends. And we’re always building up to off-season work all year long into the season.”<\/p>\n

Mineral Wells Rams Return 5 Players from<\/span> past Of year<\/span> A team that includes Jose Garcia, but there are 21 freshman<\/span> team player.<\/p>\n

This is the most by Roland Boljon head coach during his tenure at Mineral Wells and since the program began in 1994-1995. <\/p>\n

The four 9th grade varsity players have experience outside of high school football and have played in high-level competitive leagues in their regions.<\/p>\n

While most of the Lady Bearcats are returning for this season, the coaching staff has the daunting task of replacing two of the program’s greatest players.<\/p>\n

“Two record holders have to be replaced,” Aledo Girls Soccer head coach Brian Johnson said. Goalkeepers, and another one of the greatest goal scorers of all time. They’ll be hard to replace.”<\/p>\n

The Bearcats are a young team last year, but now have more experience and are expected to be more competitive this year.<\/p>\n

With the success of other Aledo Athletic programs, Vierling knows it’s raising expectations for his program.<\/p>\n

“Expectations are a big issue that Aledo have to grapple with,” Biering said. “I’ve been here for over 20 years and when you’re lucky enough to be in a state championship game and fall short, everyone in the community sees it as a disappointing season. You have those expectations.” Success is not only measured by winning year after year. Sometimes success is achieved through individual battles during the game. It’s about<\/p>\n

Mineral Wells’ change of district brings new energy to a program that has faced the same opposition for the past eight years.<\/p>\n

“I think the list of new district opponents will be something fresh for players,” Boljon said. \u201cFor the last eight years, it was tough competition for us against Stephenville and Brownwood. It was a battle every time we played against them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new district consists of Wichita Falls Hirschi, Burkbarnett, Graham, and Wichita Falls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis school district will give us new challenges, but it will make us stronger because all the schools are competitive in football,\u201d Borjon said.<\/p>\n

As the district changes, our expectations of Mineral Wells remain the same.<\/p>\n

“Our expectation this season is to get a spot in the playoffs,” Boljon said. \u201cWe also expect more wins than last year, a 100% pass rate during the season, winning the district title and always doing our best to represent our school and community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mineral Wells are seeking their ninth straight playoff appearance and their 11th appearance under Boljon.<\/p>\n

With 11 wins to their season, the Lady Bearcats and their staff know the best way to prepare for a game.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing has changed from last year,\u201d Johnson said. Our mood is bright.<\/p>\n

“The girls are ready and looking forward to a great season.”<\/p>\n

What is Johnson’s approach this season? Go after each game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a good team and we know that football is a long season. We will work hard, fix the causes of our losses and improve our build. It’s about finding players who can help you when you need it.”<\/p>\n

With 7 of their 11 starters back, Lady Ruth has hopes of making the playoffs last year.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited,” Hunt said. “Last year was a good year. We brought in quite a few girls this year.”<\/p>\n

Weatherford is focused on one game at a time, but he knows he’s not invincible.<\/p>\n
