The Evergreen Boys basketball team endured a 43-point effort from Tate Spencer at Battle Ground to hold off the Tigers 71-67 in Friday’s non-league game.<\/p>\n
The Planesmen’s senior night (6-9 overall) started with a 3-pointer by senior team manager Grant Adams before heading into the race with the senior lineup from there.<\/p>\n
“They’ve done a great job leading us,” Evergreen coach Brett Henry said of the seniors, who scored a combined 28 points.<\/p>\n
Spencer scored 21 points in the first half to keep the Tigers (9-3) close. He also made his five 3-pointers in the game. His two of his three losses in Battleground have been against Evergreen.<\/p>\n
“He’s deadly from everywhere,” said Henry. “We tried another look on him to mix it up.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
This included 6-foot-7 Arthur Van guarding 6-3 Spencer at the end of the game.<\/p>\n
“And his shot didn’t fall in the end,” Henry said.<\/p>\n
Battleground came within a point in the fourth quarter, but Evergreen didn’t give up the lead thanks to several successful free throws.<\/p>\n
Quincy Caston and Dez Daniel scored 13 points each at Evergreen, with Landon Rayner adding 10 points.<\/p>\n
Kamas 71, Skyview 40 \u2014<\/b> A 30-point blowout in the second quarter gave Kamas a win over Skyview in the dominant 4A Greater St. Helens League.<\/p>\n
The Papermakers (10-4, 3-0) led by 9 points at the end of the first quarter and blew the game away with six 3-pointers in the second, including five from Beckett Curry, leading 46-22. led at halftime.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
The sophomore scored a game-high 34 points with eight 3-pointers, with Theo McMillan adding 12 and Jamison Carlyle scoring 11.<\/p>\n
Demarie Collins scored a team-leading 12 points (8-5, 0-3) for Skyview and had a shooting percentage of 24% (50-12).<\/p>\n
Kelso 76, Prairie 68 \u2014<\/b> Peyton Stewart scored 10 of 18 points in the third quarter to help the Highlanders win the 3A Greater St. Helens League.<\/p>\n
Prairie manager Jimmy Tuominen said, “We had a two-minute stretch in the third quarter and ran a little bit.” Peyton Stewart was a big part of it. But that was the difference.”<\/p>\n
Michael Henderson scored 16 and Ethan Mitchell scored 10 (8-5, 4-1).<\/p>\n
Bailey Cousson-Sabbath had a game-high 33 points on the Prairie (4-10, 1-4).<\/p>\n
Woodland 75, Columbia River 65 \u2014<\/b> The Beavers led 17-9 in the first quarter and never looked back in the 2A GSHL game.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Dane Huddleston led all scorers with 21 points and Bo Wett added 17 points for the Beavers (9-5, 6-3 2A GSHL).<\/p>\n Columbia Rivers (4-9, 4-5) were led by Aaron Hoey’s 19 points.<\/p>\n Ridgefield 56, Fort Vancouver 42 \u2014<\/b> Kolten Castro hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter and scored 23 to give the Spuders the lead.<\/p>\n Syd Bryant added 11 for Ridgefield (7-6, 6-3 2A Greater St. Helens League).
