However, the first baseman is attracting interest from his one team in the middle of the National League.

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly “in talks” with Hosmer, and their interest is “promising.” According to John Heyman of the New York Post. It’s the second time this month that Heyman has linked Hosmer and Chicago. Meanwhile, the Cubs have been active this offseason, acquiring Dunsby Swanson for $177 million.

As for Hosmer, the former World Series champion is looking for a clean slate.

Hosmer, 33, has yet to rediscover his stride in the once All-Star.Since he joined the San Diego Padres in 2018, he still owes $39 million.Hosmer’s power , slumped in his final 20-plus home run season coming into 2019. Over the past six seasons, Hosmer has scored -3.6 dWAR in his 610 games.

For the Red Sox, it wasn’t a pretty picture either. 311 in his 45 at-bats with Boston, with only 11 hits for him. He also had 4 RBI in 3 doubles in 14 games.

As a result, the Red Sox pulled the trigger and acquired DFA Hosmer after finalizing a trade for pitcher Wyatt Mills with the Kansas City Royals. With up-and-coming first baseman Triston Casas debuting last season, keeping Hosmer far beyond his prime would make little to no sense.

Perhaps Hosmer can fill the Cubs’ short-term veteran void. With the Padres set to pay most of Hosmer’s remaining salary, taking the flyer wouldn’t be a complete loss for Chicago.

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] Eric Hosmer’s tenure with the Boston Red Sox was short-lived.
