A former college swimmer who competed with transgender athlete Leah Thomas denounced the left for continuing to encourage transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Ingraham Angle on Thursday, Riley Gaines said transgender policy is turning back the clock on Title IX and women’s rights and is not as “progressive” as advertised.<\/p>\n

Guest host Raymond Arroyo asked Gaines if women continue to have equal access to sports while governments and schools force women to compete with transgender athletes.<\/p>\n

“Absolutely not,” Gaines said. “This takes us back to the 1970s, before Title IX. I don’t think the left gets it. They consider this ‘progressive.'”<\/p>\n

“They think we’re moving forward, but this is putting us half a century back. It’s a step backward.”<\/p>\n

Gaines told ESPN that he was “humbled and honored” that Thomas won the Division I championship, and that he hopes more transgender athletes will be inspired to watch the clip. I refused.<\/p>\n

“To me, listen to it, all I hear is selfishness,” Gaines said. I hear complete disrespect and disrespect for women.”<\/p>\n

She said that Thomas used to be an average male swimmer under the name Will Thomas, and that taking politics and subjectivity out of the discussion meant that Thomas’ performance later when he competed against biological women He added that there was a noticeable difference.<\/p>\n

“If you’re looking at this from sheer stats, there’s nothing opinionated about this. A year ago, when competing as Will Thomas, Leah Thomas was ranked number 500 at best. I did,” Gaines said.<\/p>\n
