Brady retired Wednesday as the greatest football player of all time. But was Brady a great baseball player?

Kevin Malone, former baseball general manager of the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers, told Bleacher Report that Brady “could have been one of the greatest catchers of all time.” bottom. “His first love was football,” Malone said.

That didn’t stop Malone from drafting the left-handed hitting catcher out of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, with the 507th overall pick in the 1995 MLB Draft.

Super Bowl Central: Super Bowl 57 odds, Eagles vs Chiefs matchups, stats and more

Tom Brady comments: NFL icon says he ‘completely left’ a year after initial retirement announcement

Brady went to Michigan for football and the rest is history, but let’s play a “what if” game. Could he dominate baseball the way he does soccer?

Did Tom Brady play baseball in high school?

Brady attended Junipero Serra High School and was an athlete who played three sports: soccer, baseball, and basketball.

According to a San Francisco Examiner article published in 1995, Brady made a “difficult transition” from first baseman to catcher.

“You have to give Tommy a lot of credit,” coach Pete Jensen told the examiner at the time. “He really struggled in the first half of the season. He couldn’t buy a hit. It was below .200, but he really came back.”

Brady played for the national team for two years, hitting .311 and hitting eight home runs, according to MLB. It was enough to get noticed.

Was Brady drafted in the MLB?

yes. Brady was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft. Former Expo scout John Hughes says the club offered Brady “in the bottom of the second (round), near the top of the third” to lure him to the baseball diamond.

“I felt that if you offered him that amount, he would be a future big league player,” Hughes told Sports Illustrated in 2017.

Could Tom Brady have made it in MLB?

Scouts seem to think so.

“He was a very athletic young man. A big kid with a great face with a major league look. Yes, we saw faces,” Malone told Bleacher Report. “He was athletic. had a strong body in but had room to grow.As a scout the first thing you see is just the body.the type of body, the athleticism and the type of face he has.I’m a little bit weird may sound like.”

Hughes said Brady “had all the intangibles” to go pro: “He could throw left-handed power.

Was Tom Brady glad he chose soccer over baseball?

If his soon-to-be Hall of Fame career isn’t enough to convince you he made the right choice, take him at his word.

“I was lucky enough to be selected by the Expos in the 1995 MLB Draft,” Brady wrote in a photo.

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady greeted New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge in the tunnels at Raymond James Stadium ahead of a game

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[21

post-13064","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mlb","two-columns
["GET
