A former Eastmont High School soccer coach is serving a five-year sentence after being convicted of raping a teenage player more than 15 years ago.<\/p>\n
A judge handed down sentences Monday against Cristian Barboza, who was convicted in December of two counts of third-degree child rape and one count of third-degree rape.<\/p>\n
Barbosa was a soccer coach at Eastmont High School from 2005 to 2010 and was convicted of raping a victim three times between 2005 and 2007 when she was 14 and he was 23. received.<\/p>\n
No charges were filed until 2019 after victim filed charges<\/p>\n
A victim impact statement, first written by the victim in 2020 and filed in court last Wednesday, said she came forward with the intention of protecting others.<\/p>\n
The statement said she ran for 15 years and said PTSD therapy helped her recover.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors have argued for a longer sentence for Barbosa, saying “the crime is part of an ongoing pattern of sexual abuse of the same victim under the age of 18, uncovered by multiple cases over time. Met.<\/p>\n
They also stated that “the victim testified that the defendant had raped her repeatedly (50 to 70 times) over a period of about two years,” and that the pattern of continued sexual abuse justified an exceptional sentence. This is an aggravating factor.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors sought nine and a half years’ imprisonment (114 months). It sought 60 months for two counts of third-degree child rape, followed by 54 months for one count of third-degree rape.<\/p>\n
The corrections office also recommended long sentences.<\/p>\n
The court has elected to serve all these counts of action at the same time or at the same time.<\/p>\n
Barbosa went on trial in February on a separate charge of third-degree child rape after being accused of another assault on the same victim in Chelan County.<\/p>\n
That claim was made in 2021.<\/p>\n
Barbosa has a preparatory hearing scheduled for Wednesday. He remains in Chelan County Jail.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
