Over the past two years we have witnessed many great fights featuring some of South Africa’s brightest boxing stars, proving that the art of boxing is alive and well in this country.<\/p>\n

These emerging combatants graduated from prospective prospects to international campaigners.<\/p>\n

The list includes current IBF light flyweight champion Sivenati Nonchinga, Azinga Fujire, Nuranla Tilha, Siko Nyotor and Ricardo Marajica. <\/p>\n

This year we have some names that will make this boxing calendar a memorable one, if last year’s performances weren’t a problem.<\/p>\n

City Press presents some of the up-and-coming boxers to watch this year.<\/p>\n

Kane ‘k9’ Fourier<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fourie comes from a boxing family and follows in the footsteps of his father, Kobus Fourie.<\/p>\n

A Gauteng lightweight titleist, Fourier has been a professional martial artist since 2020.<\/p>\n

However, the Covid-19 outbreak put his promising career on hold. <\/p>\n

Last year he put in a great performance, beating out opponents more experienced than himself. <\/p>\n

He recorded notable achievements, including dethroning then-Gauteng champion Kaya Busakwe, who was the lightweight king in Gauteng for four years.<\/p>\n

In his final fight, Hooley defeated Western Cape amateur star Sineten Bablom.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was hoping for more action, but last year was a good year for me and my coaching team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can expect more from the team and myself this year. We have a title fight scheduled for March.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to make three or four defenses this year and win the lightweight title.<\/p>\n

Fury said:<\/p>\n

Without a doubt, I’m trying to fight a familiar name.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He dropped out of school in the 11th grade to pursue a boxing career and said he did not regret his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I wanted to finish school early, maybe eighth grade. I didn’t know how to tell my parents, so I waited. But my father wanted me to show him that I wanted to do this.<\/p>\n

“I told him I was going to jog 8km every day from school to the gym,” Hooley explained.<\/p>\n

He is currently ranked 1st in the South African lightweight category and 6th on the WBF list.<\/p>\n

The talented and versatile boxer who has yet to taste the glory of a title has moved from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg to take his boxing career to the next level.<\/p>\n

Rossouw has joined master boxing tactician Vusi Motolo.<\/p>\n

The sophisticated fighter hasn’t signed a promotional deal, but he’s relying on his talent to earn a championship opportunity in the new year. <\/p>\n

He was featured on ESPN Africa Boxing.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year was a good year for me. I had a lot of action in the ring and finished the year 7-0.<\/p>\n

Last year my goal was to be busier than before, but this year I have another goal. It’s about winning titles.<\/p>\n

“We are already in talks to return to the ring in March.”<\/p>\n
