Abram"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" id=\"js-post-content\" data-truncate=\"3\">\n<p>Madison \u2014 It wasn&#8217;t pretty, but the Madison girls&#8217; basketball team fended off a second-half scare to hold off Mountain Valley Conference foe Abram 51-38 at the Veneziano gym on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore guard Mackenzie Robbins led the Bulldogs with 14 points (8-4), and fellow sophomore Raygan Cowan added 12 points. Junior guard Kylie Furbush gave Madison his eight points.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was a good[win]for us after a big loss to Valley[on January 21],&#8221; Robbins said.<\/p>\n<p>Senior guard Abi Wilcox led the Roadrunners with 13 points (5-7), while sophomores Vailea Haynes and Carly Turner each added seven points.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Abram head coach Lanny Roy said he was determined to fight back from a 23-point deficit at some point in the third quarter to keep the game within nine points after playing two nights in a row due to a postponement due to bad weather. He said he was proud of what he was able to do. the 4th.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m glad we were within 10, which was great,\u201d says Roy.  \u201cMadison is a great team and has delivered a good program all along. I am happy with how the girls are playing. I&#8217;m glad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Robbins scored 11 of 14 points in the first half to lead the Bulldogs to a comfortable 27\u201314 lead at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a lot of good guards,&#8221; Robbins said.  &#8220;We use speed to our advantage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we had a pretty intense first half,\u201d said Madison head coach Al Beneziano. I have to let him play, but I think it worked out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That lead extended to 23 points in the third quarter thanks to a 9-0 run to start the second half. We&#8217;re finishing the rebounds.The Madisons are a fast team and it&#8217;s been hard to keep up with them, and in back-to-back games, it&#8217;s hard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mount Abram chipped at Madison thanks to scoring from Wilcox, Haynes and freshman guard Jenna Osgood. The Bulldogs held his lead 45-36 midway through the final period. But key baskets from sophomore Ella Haney and his junior Ari Griffeth secured the win for Madison.<\/p>\n<p>After going 3-0 early in the season, Madison is now 5-4 in their last nine games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think there are guards who can handle the ball well,&#8221; Veneziano said.  \u201cPutting us under pressure has been tough for some[teams].
