Waves made just 11 mistakes compared to Torreros&#8217; 18 (10-12, WCC 3-5).<\/span><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n <br \/><strong><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">big waves<\/span><\/strong>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\">\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">Sophomore <\/span><strong><dfn>Mike Mitchell Jr.<\/dfn><\/strong>    (San Jose, Calif.\/Archbishop Miti HS) led the Waves with 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting and 7 assists.<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">Sophomore <\/span><strong><dfn>Carson Basham<\/dfn><\/strong>    (Phoenix, AZ\/Compass, AZ Reserve) defeated seven boards, had three assists and two blocks, and scored a career-high 18 points.<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">Sophomore <\/span><strong><dfn>Maxwell Lewis<\/dfn><\/strong>    (Las Vegas, Nevada\/Compass Prep, AZ) scored 15 points, shot 50% from the field, had 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block . <\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">every play<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\">Out of the gate, Waves struggled to decipher San Diego&#8217;s zone defense that spurred Torreros&#8217; 16-0 lead, but after Mitchell Jr.&#8217;s 3 and a pairing with Lewis, Pepperdine scored at halfway point. Energized. <\/span><strong><dfn>Jalen Pitre<\/dfn> <\/strong>(Long Beach, California\/Woodstock Academy) <strong><dfn>Malik Moore<\/dfn> <\/strong>(Ventura, Calif.\/Heritage Christian HS).  USD thwarted Waves&#8217; run, causing a good-man turnover and a tying foul to bring Toreros back to 7.  From the 2-minute mark, the two teams exchanged free throws and in favor of San Diego he headed into his locker room with the score 37-32.<br \/><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-9c05a984-7fff-561d-6fda-ff111478aeac\"><br \/>After some back and forth early in the second, Waves took the lead with Lewis&#8217; 3, going up 60-58 with 10:14 left in the contest, with Basham and 1 holding them for the next two minutes.
