Emmitsburg, Maryland (January 18, 2023) – Two teams will bring the same record to Knots Arena on Thursday for a grudge match as Mount St. Mary’s women’s basketball welcomes the Marist Red Foxes for the first time since 1997.
Each team has a winning percentage of 7-9, and both teams, which have a 3-4 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), are tied for third place with Manhattan for sixth place.

A mount is 6-1 if he flips the ball less than his opponent, and 3-1 if he rebounds less than his opponent. The defense has also held up well by keeping it below 60 points, giving the team a perfect 5-0 record this year.

Junior Zaria Shazer leads the team in points (14.5), rebounds (6.6) and assists (2.7) per game. Shazer is one of his three players to have scored in double digits for the Red Foxes, joined by Kiara Fisher and Kendall Crick.

Co-members of the Northeast Conference from 1989 to 1997, the Mountaineers and Red Foxes challenged each other 17 times during that time. That timeline coincided with when Mount had his championship heyday in his three conferences in the mid-1990s, with Mount notching his 15 wins in those meetings. Marist had victories in his 1993 and his 1997.
The two met in a 1993 NEC title match, which Mount St. Mary’s won 82–61. It was the first of three consecutive conference championships for the team.
