The women’s basketball race in the Golden West League didn’t turn out like Ocean View had hoped for on Wednesday night, but it turned out to be more tense at the top.
Segerstrom recovered from a double-digit deficit to beat Ocean View 55-46 to tie for second place with three games remaining.
Ocean View (18-7, 5-2 in the Golden West League) and Segerstrom (16-8, 5-2) may have needed each other’s help to challenge for the league title. But I got help from an unexpected source. Fourth-placed Westminster beat league leaders Godinez at home 60-51.

“They’re a good team,” Ledesma said of facing the Seahawks. “They beat us in overtime last time. We knew if we beat them, we could go to the CIF. We were finally successful.”

Bud scored a game-high 18 points on Oceanview. Senior guard Haley Beh added 11 points and freshman guard Laniebe added 10 points. Senior forward Jaden Campuzano scored his five points.
Valenciano is 14 points ahead of Segerstrom and 12 ahead of Solis. Ledesma scored his nine and junior guard Valeria Quero scored his five.
