The Boston Red Sox have been less involved in the trade market this offseason. However, one of his former Major League Baseball officials reported that the team is in trade talks with the Miami Marlins.
A few names have also been revealed.
Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden of The Athletic provided two Marlins. He hinted that trade talks were underway between the Red Sox and the Marlins, and that Miami would be “willing to” move one of its middle-field infielders and starting pitchers.
“Boden is working on a trade with the Marlins, according to industry sources, who have a veteran shortstop (Miguel Rojas) and a proven starter (Pablo Lopez) and want to move,” Boden said. wrote on Wednesday.
This isn’t the first time Rojas has been involved with the Red Sox this offseason. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Boston reportedly asked the Marlins about his 33-year-old.
By MLB’s 2023 Opening Day, Rojas will be 34 years old. 988 fielding percentage in his 140 games, ranking second among MLB shortstops. He also batted .236/.283/.322 with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Meanwhile, Lopez, who turns 27 in March, would be a solid rotation upgrade. Last season, Red his Sox pitchers combined he ranked 25th in ERA (4.53) and his WHIP (1.35). In Miami, Lopez started in his career-high 32 games and had his 3.75 ERA. The southpaw starting pitcher also has 1.17 WHIPs in 180 innings and he has struck out 174 batters.
