Who is the Cowboys’ backup quarterback? Dallas’ 2023 QB depth chart behind Dak Prescott

The Cowboys are aiming for something the franchise hasn’t done since Troy Aikman became a Dallas star. Participating in the NFC Championship Game.

After recording the franchise’s first playoff win since 2018, the Cowboys will date the 49ers in Santa Clara on Sunday to determine who will face the Eagles in the conference finals.

Dak Prescott is not only one of his best performances this season, but also one of his best games in the NFL. He threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns without turning the ball over in a win over the Buccaneers.

Prescott is Dallas’ first quarterback since arriving there in 2016, but the Cowboys wouldn’t exist this season without the play of his backup Cooper Rush.

Rush kept the Cowboys afloat when Prescott went down early in the season, leading four of the team’s 12 wins in the regular season. If it weren’t for another Prescott injury, we wouldn’t see Rush for the rest of the season, but once again, he’s been instrumental in Dallas’ success.

Who is the Cowboys’ backup quarterback?

Cooper Rush is the Cowboys’ backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott.

Rush, 29, is entering his fifth season with the Dallas Organization. His first four years didn’t do much, but when Prescott went down with an injury in Week 1 last September, Rush was called on to be the man.

Rush kept the Cowboys afloat during Prescott’s absence. He went 4-1 in five starts, earning NFC East victories over the Giants and Commanders, and wins over the Bengals and Rams. His only loss was to the Eagles in Week 6.

Overall, Rush threw for 1,095 yards and completed 58% of his passes, averaging 6.5 yards thrown for the season.

The depth chart heading into the division round is the same as if all three QBs were healthy.

Rush served as Prescott’s backup for the wild card game against the Bucks, with Greer inactive. Expect the same in the divisional round matchup against the 49ers.
