White Sox deepen pitching, sign right-hander Mike Morin to a minor league deal, according to his MLB deal page.
Morin, 31, hasn’t played in the big leagues since his stint with the Marlins in 2020, spending the past season with an independent franchise. For Kane County, Morin pitched 13 his 2/3 innings with a 5.27 ERA.
Drafted by the Angels in the 13th round of the 2012 draft, Morin escaped the LA system and made his debut in 2014. He appeared to be a good reliever that year, pitching a 2.90 ERA with strong peripherals for 59 innings.
The following year, he placed an even better peripheral, increased his strikeout rate and lowered his walk rate, but posted a 6.37 ERA in 35 1/3 innings. The Angels continued to use him in the bullpen through his 2017 years after which he appeared in games for the Royals, Mariners, Twins, Phillies, and Marlins before waivers began to bounce around the league a bit on his wire.
Overall, Molins compiled a 4.57 ERA in 228 2/3 big league innings. He throws his high-90s fastball and mixes a slider and a changeup.
