What soccer games are coming to Peacock in January

Being welcomed into 2023 means welcoming many important soccer games that will air exclusively on Peacock in January.

Indeed, the only football asset Peacock has is the Premier League. However, there are still about 4-5 games on the service alone each weekend. This often includes major games. Derby’s, top four fights and especially relegation scraps are commonplace at Peacock and the January football game is no exception.

In the past, NBC has saved major games for the USA Network or NBC on Saturdays at 12:30 PM ET. As you can see, January is not always the case. Perhaps to lure subscribers to his Peacock, NBC put some of the biggest contests of the season on the service.

Thursday 5 January – Chelsea v Manchester City

Midweek games will likely air more frequently on Peacock due to other content from USA Network and NBC. However, regardless of Chelsea’s relative struggles, this is still a massive match. Pep he Guardiola has played many games for Chelsea since losing to the Blues in the 2021 Champions League final. But Graham Potter needs to point the ship in the right direction and Chelsea are closing in on the bottom half of the table.

Saturday 14 January Brighton v Liverpool

On the topic of Graham Potter, his former employer is doing pretty well despite the loss of his English coach. A notable result at Anfield and a tough draw at Anfield. It’s his 3-on-3 game that makes this matchup between Brighton and Liverpool so compelling. That match, months before Leandro Trossard scored his trick for the hat, was probably the match of the season.

Saturday 14 January – Manchester United v Manchester City

One of the few matches this season in which Brighton and Liverpool have drawn 3-3 was the first Manchester derby of the season. City defeated United 6-3 at the Etihad. But this is a United side that has changed a lot since that game. Eric Ten Hag’s United have been flowing, especially at home. The Red Devils haven’t conceded at home since his early September and have scored 19 of their 21 points since losing to Brighton on opening day.

For Manchester City, this is an important match that is more than just bragging rights. Arsenal, with eight points into the game, are developing something of a cushion at the top of the table. So with his two games still to go against Arsenal, City have no time to drop points.

Saturday 14 January – Everton v Southampton

Yes, another soccer game on January 14th is only available at Peacock. But this is no derby, nor is it a team battle for a European spot or title. Instead, this is more hopeless. Everton and Southampton are currently in a relegation battle. The importance of these games against each other cannot be underestimated. Dropping points is one thing, but direct rivals can score points and thus get out of scrap. Emotions run high as teams look for results.

Monday 23 January – Fulham v Tottenham

Newly promoted Fulham are one of the underrated points of this season. After a season down in the Championship, the Craven Cottage side are flying in the top flight. That’s a lofty goal, but recent results don’t deter it.

It’s frustrating for Tottenham, even though they’re higher up. Antonio Conte himself admitted that finishing in the top four is a serious challenge, even if he may struggle. As a result, this London his derby has a new flavor of importance that has traditionally been superseded by the likes of Arsenal vs. Chelsea.
