The Black Bears bounced back from their first loss in the Eastern United States with a victory over Binghamton on Saturday. Maine trailed entering the fourth quarter but went full on Jaycee Christopher’s 3-pointer of his and he had 3:02 left to clinch the 50-46 win. Smith had 17 points, 15 rebounds and four steals.
On Sunday, UMass Lowell (who is averaging just 53.5 points this season) heated up with a 76-63 victory over Bryant in his first conference win of the season. Ivory Finley scored 18 points, Jalena Sanchez had 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and Jaini Edmonds scored his 16th.
Since the Riverhawks’ promotion to Division I in 2013, their rivalry with Maine has been lopsided. Black’s Bears are now 18-2, including his 70-63 overtime win at home on January 4. Finley paced UMass Lowell with 14 points.
