LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — James Ward-Prowse scores twice to help Southampton beat Everton 2-1 in an English Premier League game overshadowed by security threats to Everton’s board I was.
Ward-Prowse took a free kick over the wall past a frozen Jordan Pickford in the 78th minute after making the score just after half-time at Goodison Park into the evening.
Amadou Onana gave Everton a 1–0 lead in the 39th inning when he scored a corner kick past goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
With the win, Southampton drew with West Ham and Everton on points (15), but remained bottom on goal difference. Everton were second from bottom.
Thousands of Everton fans planned to remain in the stands as a sit-in protest against the club’s board of directors.
Everton manager Frank Lampard was given a vote of confidence by ownership this week, but the loss will only put more pressure on the Chelsea great as he nears his first year in office.
Everton’s winning streak extends to nine games in all competitions.
Southampton’s first win at Goodison Park since 1997.
